Forest owners require Work quality monitoring of care works and harvesting operations

The majority of forest owners live in cities away from their forests or  otherwise limited to carrying out field  visits in their forests when different care works  or, logging operations are carried out there. Measures taken in the forest must, in principle, meet both the requirements of the Forest Act and the quality criteria for forest management recommendations and preferably implement the  strategic objectives of the payer of the invoice – the forest owner in managing their forest assets. Large forest operators require plot measurements from their contractors to monitor the quality of care works, thinning or harvesting. Unfortunately, these onsite  quality control measurements do not transfer  to the forest owner for technical or other reasons. The forest owner doesn’t know who did it and how he/she make the strategic plan for future? What tree species and how many tree stems were left in the stand? What damage to the trees or the ground suffered? Similarly, forest resource information or, forest plan was not updated. This incomplete information leads to false growth calculations at the end of both the forest owner and the state.

In the current case, some contractors or, forest service entrepreneurs will provide quality documentation on paper if they do so at all.  Some are able to update e.g. information in its own digital network service, the use of which requires membership or an equivalent customer relationship. However, the necessary photos or video clips are not stored in existing services or are newer passed on to the forest owner. Historical data similar to the house service book, on property or stand-wise is not generated in order to strengthen the knowledge base of future generations in the forest and its earning and exploitation.

Wuudis Solutions Oy has developed Wuudis Service for 4 years with Finnish Forest Centre and TTS (Työtehoseura) and independent forest service and machine entrepreneurs in the DataBio and Fobia projects funded by the EU Commission. Wuudis enables quality reporting of forest work and logging from forest with photo, video and machine tracking data (under construction) throughout the life cycle of wood production. The measured data and observations are reflected in the service in a timely manner as desired for different actors.  In this way, the forest owner is always aware of what is happening to his property during forest operations. The forest owner may also, if he/she wishes, to supply or ask the forest operator to deliver the updated forest information to forest authority via Wuudis.

Bringing quality into a service factor will take the entire forest sector forward. It increases transparency, trust and verifiable for stakeholders and end-customers for good forest management
